Something Glorious Is About To Happen!

Last Monday I saw the wonderful band from the UK, Bloc Party. They were everything I had hoped they would be. They were; The opening bands were something else.

The first band was the Maccabees. They were also from the UK, and you could tell. Some of their songs sounded similar, and the vocals were a bit muddy. Other than that, they were awesome. The lead singer needs to lay off some sort of drug though. He kinda flailed his arms a little bit when he wasn't singing...

After them was the Noisettes. They had an interesting makeup. The band was a trio, with a large hairy man on drums, a slick haired guy on lead guitar (pink of course), and a girl on bass/lead vocals. She was a character. She had a "pony-hawk" (look it up) and some sort of spandex/dress combination that would make the 80's proud. She also felt the need to play her bass between her legs a lot and jump two octaves in her vocals at random. The drummer also felt the need to play every drum/cymbal in reach (6, including 2 snares) every 2 seconds. Let's just say it got old. Their best song was their first, and over an hour later I didn't even want to hear that song.

At this point I was kinda in pain. For some reason my lower back was upset at me, and I think it had something to do with the guy two feet from me that decided to smoke a few doobies. They give me a headache. But all that changed pretty quickly.

Bloc Party was amazing. They opened with Song for Clay and then played just about every song in their new album before turning to their old album. After the show we all guessed that they all but three of the songs off their two albums, as well as one cover that no one recognized. The entire band was killing it! Their drummer is a friggin' robot. Every song was solid, and better than the album. They even started thier second encore with the bassist playing an extra drum set.

All in all it was a great night. I'm very glad I got to see them. They have been on my list of bands to see for a few years. Next up this summer is Motion City Soundtrack, Snow Patrol and Sherwood (again). unless I want to make the 4 hour drive down from Ames to see Mae again ;)
