Are cell phones destructive?

Holy cow! I just pulled up the call timer for my phone. I've had it for 2 years next month, and I've spent a TON of time on this phone. In the last two years I've spent over 95 hours on received calls, 77 on dialed calls, and almost 173 hours total on the phone. That's too much. And although I know I'm not in the upper tier of cell phone users, I rarely use a landline. So what does that tell us about the society that we live in?

Also I saw a commercial for a cell phone company where the mother is out raged that her little girl sent over 3000 texts in a month. On an average month that adds up to almost 19 texts every waking hour (8 per day). What?! I hope there are very very few people out there who text that much.

Should we use them less? Or just smarter? I for one hate hearing loud ringtones during class, even if I'm not paying attention. I think that cell phones give people the excuse to be annoying in public while also being completely oblivious to their surroundings.

What do you guys think?

Beer Diet!

Is it real? Of course not! But it's still funny.

Amazon to pass iTunes?

I just read that Amazon is offeringCheaper Songs than iTunes! the best part, to me, is that they are DRM-free! I'm kind of excited. Here's the low-down according to Ashley at Cybernet News:

  • Amazon
    • DRM - n/a
    • DRM free - $0.89 to $0.99 each
    • Full Albums - most $5.99 - $9.99 (some cheaper)
    • Over 2 million songs by 180,000 artists (20,000 major and independent labels)
  • iTunes
    • DRM - $0.99 each
    • DRM free - $1.29 each

The problem I see is that iTunes currently has over 2 Billion songs. That's 100 times the size of Amazon's. Hopefully amazon will expand quickly, and allow people to add their songs to the list easier than iTunes, which I heard has a long waiting period for lesser known bands.

Free Ringtone for You!

Wow, it's been two days since I last posted. Crazy.

Anyway, last week I went to the career fair and talked to a bunch of companies. The first one was Sprint. I actually hadn't planned on talking to them, but they attacked me. Needless to say, I wasn't prepared. After a lovely talk with three different people there, I was sent on my way with a free ringtone and little hope of an interview (don't worry, I did better with other companies and I have at least one interview lined up).

I tried out the free ringtone and guess what? It doesn't work with my carrier (Verizon). I should have seen that coming. So I'm giving it away. If there are no takers here, I'll post a note on Facebook. Just leave me a note. The most interesting comment wins!

Hurt - Sad Kermit

I'm not going to say anything about this "band". Yes, it's real. It's not by Jim Henson though. I love this song, but Kermit weirds me out.
